Google CE sees newspaper future in advertising
The Associated Press
‘s chief executive told newspaper publishers Tuesday that they should continue to rely on advertising but seek new ways to reach readers. Without providing specific recipes Eric Schmidt laid out a few possibilities including a site for medicine similar to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia which lets users collectively contribute and edit entries. He urged publishers to focus on mobile technology and the development of new platforms for delivering news. Schmidt said there’s still room for subscription and pay-by-the-piece journalism but he emphasized advertising the source of 98 percent of Google’s revenue thanks to its success matching ads with a user’s search terms and other keywords. “The important thing here is that advertising that is useful is going to work” he said.
‘Pitchmen’ celebrates advertising as entertainment

“People want to hear the pitch. Now this is a provocative idea: Billy Mays as counterprogramming. Perhaps consumers are weary and wary of having their psychometrics used against them angry at advertising’s insinuation into every facet of their consciousness until even their digital humanity on Facebook and Twitter is co-opted by hungry marketers. Perhaps consumers want to reward Mays for his refreshing lack of guile. An honest pitch deserves an honest sale doesn’t it? r it could be Americans simply like to buy a lot of useful junk. 95 chamois and PedEggs might be the recession-era methadone for cash-strapped shopaholics.

According to the professional services company 60 percent of web users were also happy to watch adverts in return for free content such as music and videos. nly 16 percent said they would rather fork out for music and videos if it meant they didn’t have to see advertising. “This willingness to view adverts in exchange for free content is good news for advertisers and is perhaps a pointer in the ongoing debate over whether advertising or subscription is the right revenue model” said Tudor Aw partner at KPMG. The research also revealed that 34 percent had purchased music on their phones in the past year. However banking on mobile phones has not taken off with 67 percent saying security issues stopped them using their handset for financial transactions.
Customer ‘winning’ advertising

examiners_body img{padding:5px;} In national surveys consumers are warming a little more to advertising for free content they love DVR because of the opportunity to skip commercials and get straight to programming. It takes less time to watch a show and no one has to learn about Dr Soles foot cushions when there is a cliff hanger in the show they are watching. I know this to be true in my own household but then again I noticed a caveat recently to that when I was watching Bravo’s Top Chef and was randomly hitting the fast forward to get to the next part of the show…. I saw a funny commercial. I actually stopped hitting the fast forward button and started hitting rewind to see the commercial thereby delaying my need to watch the next part of the elimination challenge which is by far the most climatic part of the show.
