Pioneer Press cuts 11 jobs

Paul Pioneer Press laid off nine employees in its newsroom Tuesday and two in advertising and sales production according to news reports. The layoffs are estimated to save the Pioneer Press about $800000 a year according to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. MinnPost blogger David Bauer also reported the news citing a Facebook entry by former Pioneer Press copy editor Andrew Pritchard who said he was one of the ones cut. Cheryl Burch-Schoff a Pioneer Press newsroom delegate to the Newspaper Guild labor union declined to comment. The cuts will trim down the Pioneer Press’ current 131-member newsroom and the 74-employee advertising staff.

The 30-second television spot depicts the doubt faced by every guy whether it is the moment he steps on the doorstep before a date just before he delivers a presentation or giving a “best man” toast at a wedding and the role Gillette’s high-performance grooming products play in helping him gain the confidence to succeed in that moment. The television ad debuted in the US at the Men’s Fitness Ultimate Athlete event on June 20 and will begin airing more broadly throughout the US this week on numerous sports prime time and cable programs. The advertising campaign was executed by BBD New York. Additional marketing elements featuring the full Gillette male grooming product range will begin appearing in July including print advertising point-of-sale materials and digital advertising.
